Merrill Tool and Water Jet began in July of 1999 as Merrill Tool and Die, when brothers Craig and Lee founded a machine shop focused on producing small metal parts and die components. In 2003, the business had grown enough to support building a 6,000 square foot facility at 202 Eugene Street in Merrill. From there, the company expanded from its tool and die focus to include more services, such as water jet cutting, new machining capabilities and producing a wide variety of aluminum brackets. In 2008, the company changed its name to Merrill Tool and Water Jet to emphasize its expertise in water jet cutting.

Within a few years, the company had grown too large for its original facility. In the Fall of 2011, Merrill Tool and Water Jet moved into its current location at 202 S Thomas Street. The company has enjoyed rapid expansion at its 55,000 square foot production facility, which is divided into a 50,000 square foot production area and a 5,000 square foot office. The additional space allowed the company to expand its capabilities to include new services, including laser cutting, fabrication of larger weldments and new VMCs and turning centers for machining. It also allowed for the growth of the product division, MTW Attachments.

Currently, the company employs approximately 30 people supporting machining, welding, forming, product manufacturing, water jet and laser cutting.
